A controversy has erupted on social media over giving 22 pages to Maratha history and only 2 pages to Rajput history in an NCERT book. People are calling it an ignorance of Rajput valor and contribution.

This year, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is getting embroiled in controversies one after the other. One problem does not end when another arises. The latest case is related to an NCERT book, which has created a new ruckus on social media.

The matter is such that Maratha history has been given a place of 22 pages in the book, while Rajput history has been confined to just 2 pages. People are angry about this difference and are calling it 'injustice to history'.

Wave of anger on social media

A debate broke out on social media about NCERT. Many users expressed their displeasure through posts, videos and comments. They say that it is wrong to give so little space to Rajput valor and contribution. Some people even wrote that it is an insult to the sacrifice and bravery of the Rajputs.

What is the difference in the book?

According to reports, the book about which there is controversy, the establishment of the Maratha Empire, the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the expansion of the Maratha Empire, administration and war strategy have been explained in detail in 32 pages. At the same time, Rajput history mentions only a few major wars and rulers, which have been summed up in just 2 pages. Whereas historians believe that both the communities have made an important contribution to Indian history. In such a situation, it is important to give balanced and detailed information, so that students get to read the correct and complete history.

This is not the first time

This is not the first time that NCERT is facing criticism regarding the content. Even before this, questions have been raised many times regarding changes in the syllabus, removal or addition of some chapters. Academics believe that it is more important than the number of pages in the book that the information is correct, balanced and unbiased. As the controversy escalates, an official statement from NCERT is awaited.

Contribution to history

The Rajputs fought many major wars in the medieval period and bravely faced foreign invaders. The stories of Maharana Pratap of Mewar, Rani Padmini of Chittor and many other brave warriors still inspire.

Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj laid the foundation of Swaraj and challenged powerful Mughal rulers like Aurangzeb. His war strategy and administrative skills are studied even today.
