In a big push to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, the Maharashtra government has introduced its new Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, offering massive incentives and nationwide toll exemptions. If you're considering switching to an EV, this policy could significantly reduce your overall expenses and make ownership much more attractive.
EV Policy 2025: Effective From April 1stMaharashtra’s new EV Policy officially came into effect on April 1, 2025, and will remain valid until March 31, 2030. The primary goal of the policy is to ensure that at least 30% of all new vehicle sales in the state are electric by 2030.
Major Highlights of the Policy ✅ Up to ₹2 Lakh Subsidy on EV PurchasesUnder this policy, electric vehicles across various categories—two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and buses—are eligible for substantial subsidies. Here's a breakdown:
Two-wheelers | L1 & L2 | 40% of vehicle cost | 1,00,000 vehicles |
Three-wheelers | L5M | 40% | 15,000 vehicles |
Cars and Taxis | M1 | 30% (up to ₹2 lakh max) | 25,000 vehicles |
Light Commercial Vehicles | N1 | 25% | 10,000 vehicles |
Heavy Commercial Vehicles | N2, N3 | 20% | No set limit |
Electric Buses | M3, M4 | ₹20 lakh per bus | 1,500 buses |
Electric Tractors | — | ₹1.5 lakh per tractor | Not specified |
One of the standout features of Maharashtra’s EV Policy 2025 is the waiver of toll tax on all EVs purchased under this scheme—valid across India. EV owners will not need to pay toll charges on national and state highways, including major routes like the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and the Atal Setu.
Additionally, motor vehicle tax and registration renewal charges have also been waived for EV buyers in the state.
🔋 Charging Infrastructure Every 25 KmTo support the rising EV adoption, the government plans to build charging stations every 25 kilometers along highways. Moreover, every petrol and diesel station in the state will be required to set up at least one EV charging point.
The policy also includes provisions for:
-
1,500 high-power DC fast-charging stations to be set up across the state.
-
A subsidy of ₹10 lakh per charging station to incentivize fast-charging infrastructure.
-
Additional incentive packages for EV and battery manufacturing units under special industrial schemes.
Maharashtra’s EV Policy 2025 is among the most aggressive in the country and comes at a time when reducing carbon emissions and fuel dependence is a top priority. By offering financial subsidies, toll exemptions, and tax reliefs, the state is paving the way for more sustainable mobility.
Bottom LineIf you’ve been waiting for the right time to go electric, this is it. With up to ₹2 lakh in subsidies, no toll charges across India, and zero motor tax, owning an EV in Maharashtra has never been more rewarding. The policy not only benefits individual buyers but also pushes toward a greener, cleaner future for everyone.
So, whether you’re looking to save money or reduce your carbon footprint, Maharashtra’s EV Policy 2025 offers a powerful incentive to make the switch today.
