Kartik Purnima Kab Hai: In the Hindu Sanatan tradition, the full moon day of every month is considered highly auspicious and revered. Special worship of Lord Vishnu and the Moon God is offered on this day. Although the full moon day is auspicious every month, when it falls in the holy month of Kartik, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, its significance increases manifold.
Kartik Purnima is considered highly virtuous from a religious perspective. Bathing, donating, and lighting lamps on this day hold special significance. It is believed that worship and donations made on Kartik Purnima bestow eternal benefits and destroy all sins. On this day, the festival of Dev Deepawali, the festival of the gods, is celebrated, when all the gods worship Lord Vishnu and Mahadev by lighting lamps on the banks of the Ganges in Kashi.
When to Celebrate Dev Deepawali and When to Offer Arghya to the Moon
Kartik Purnima is not only considered highly auspicious from a religious perspective, but the grand festival of Dev Deepawali is also celebrated on this day. This year, according to the calendar, the most auspicious time for Dev Deepawali, or Pradoshkaal, will be from 5:15 pm to 7:50 pm. During this period, ritualistic worship and the lighting of lamps can be organized for approximately two and a half hours. It is believed that the gods descend to earth at this time to manifest their divinity, and therefore, religious activities performed during this time are considered especially fruitful.
Also, worshipping and offering prayers to the Moon God on Kartik Purnima holds special significance. This year, moonrise will occur at 5:11 pm. Religious Significance of Kartik Purnima
Kartik Purnima is known as Dev Diwali and Tripurari Purnima in Hinduism. It is believed that Lord Shiva killed three demons—Sampatasura, Rupasura, and Mahamalasura—on this day, making it extremely auspicious for Lord Shiva. Additionally, this day holds special significance for the worship of Lord Vishnu. According to religious beliefs, the gods descend to earth on Kartik Purnima and celebrate Diwali.
Bathing in the Ganges and other holy water bodies, meditation, and charity are of paramount importance on this day. In particular, donating and lighting lamps is believed to absolve a person of all sins and bestow eternal virtue. The importance of lighting lamps in the evening is even greater, as it is considered the best way to welcome the gods and express devotion to them. Thus, Kartik Purnima is not only a day of religious rituals and worship, but also brings spiritual purification, mental peace, and social charity.
