Fernando Alonso's four-word response to Taylor Swift engagement after romance links

F1's Fernando Alonso has given a cheeky four-word response when quizzed about pop sensation Taylor Swift's engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. The 44-year-old was once rumoured to beromantically involved with Swift in 2023 via an anonymous social media post that hinted at a connection between the duo.

This followed the 'Love Story' singer's split from actor Joe Alwynand Alonso's break-up with TV host Andrea Schlager. Swift and Kelce, both 35, have since made waves with their recent engagement after first coupling up in the summer of 2023.

When asked for their views on Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce's impending nuptials, several F1 drivers shared their opinions with Sky Sports F1 - but it was Alonso's reaction that stood out. With a smile and a chuckle, he said: "Good, congratulations, I guess?"

Rumours of a connection between Alonso and Swift grew last year when some fans speculated that Swift had called out the two-time world champion in her latest album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'.

Swift is well-known for referencing her past relationships in her music, and one particular lyric in the song 'imgonnagetyouback' led fans to suspect she was taking a dig at Alonso.

"Small talk, big walk, act like I don't care what you did. I'm an Aston Martin that you steered straight into the ditch, then ran and hid," Swift sings on the track.

Alonso's position as an Aston Martin driver in F1 naturally led many fans to believe the song was indeed about the Spanish ace. However, Alonso has also contributed to stoking speculation himself through a string of mysterious replies when quizzed about his romantic situation.

It was thought, though, that he was simply capitalising on the attention rather than there being any real substance behind the suggestions. When gossip about the duo began circulating, Alonso had teased followers by sharing an enigmatic clip on TikTok.

The footage featured the Spaniard glancing at his phone while seated, gazing up at the camera, and winking. Swift's track 'Karma' provided the soundtrack throughout. Alonso captioned the post: "Race week era."

The word 'era' has become linked with Swift following her record-smashing 'Eras Tour', which travelled worldwide from 2023-2024. Nevertheless, Alonso's choice of 'Karma' might be purely coincidental, given he previously used the phrase in a radio transmission to Renault colleague Jolyon Palmer following his withdrawal from the Italian Grand Prix in 2017.

Sending supporters into another spin, sharp-eyed Swifties spotted the F1 star describing himself as an "anti-hero" during season five of Netflix series Drive to Survive. 'Anti-Hero' happens to be one of the pop star's biggest hits.

The speculated romance between Alonso and Swift was never substantiated and remained mere gossip. Swift and Kelce confirmed their engagement with a late August social media post.

The singer captioned the post: "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married". The announcement quickly garnered over 1.5 million likes in less than 20 minutes.
