*Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3.*
The Summer I Turned Pretty is well into its third and final season, and main character Belly Conklin is one step closer to resolving her brutal love triangle.
Adapted from showrunner Jenny Han's beloved YA novels, the latest series has followed Belly (played by Lola Tung) preparing for married life with Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno).

But when Belly's ex-boyfriend and Jeremiah's older brother, Conrad (played by Christopher Briney), confessed his undying love for her, she was forced to reconsider her feelings.
While she is still in love with Conrad, Belly decided to go ahead with her wedding. However, Jeremiah ultimately called it off after reading a letter from his dead mother.
In episode eight, Laurel (played by Jackie Chung) gifts Jeremiah and Belly letters from the Fishers' mum, Susannah, who had written the messages before passing away.
However, Laurel accidentally gifted Conrad's letter to Jeremiah. While viewers could barely see what was written in the message, it led to Jeremiah cancelling their nuptials. So what exactly did the letter say?

Dear Conrad,
I can hardly believe my little boy is getting married today! I am just bursting at the thought that my beautiful boy has found the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
I only ever got to see you in love once, and for that I will always, always be grateful. Not just that I got to see you in love but I got to see you in love. Oh, the way she looked at you - it was like you were the only boy in the world. As a mother, there is no greater gift than to see her child be so dearly loved by another person.
Today, if there is even a fraction of the love I saw then, I am more than happy, I am overjoyed. Don't be afraid to tell her everyday how very much she means to you. Cook for her, be a good listener, don't try to win every argument. Jewellery is always welcome. Pay attention to if she wears gold or silver. If she is not a jewellery girl, then chocolate.
Loving you always and forever,
Mum.
Although the letter doesn't explicitly name Belly, Susannah clearly envisioned her son marrying someone who lived up to his teen relationship with Belly.
After reading the message, Jeremiah likely came to terms with how deep Conrad's feelings are for Belly and needed clarification that she doesn't feel the same way.
But when he asked his fiancée, she only confirmed that she was still in love with Conrad and shattered any hope Jeremiah had for their marriage.
The younger Fisher boy was naturally distressed after reading the letter and ultimately ended his four-year relationship.
