BSNL VoWiFi: State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has given a big gift to its users. Now the company's customers will be able to make voice calls even without a mobile network. BSNL has launched its new VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) service, through which users will be able to make calls through Wi-Fi connection instead of mobile network. With this move, BSNL has now come at par with private companies like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, which are already providing this facility.
BSNL network expansionBSNL recently expanded its 4G service by installing over 100,000 mobile towers across the country. The company plans to install approximately 97,500 more towers in the coming days. Meanwhile, the launch of VoWiFi service is being considered another major milestone on the occasion of BSNL's 25th anniversary.
The service was soft-launched on October 2nd by Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Currently, the service has been launched in the South and West circles, but will soon be made available nationwide. Additionally, BSNL recently launched 4G and eSIM services in Mumbai, which were previously launched in Tamil Nadu.
How will BSNL's VoWiFi service work? This service will be especially beneficial in areas with weak mobile networks. Users will be able to make clear and stable calls without interruptions using their home Wi-Fi or broadband connection. However, users must have a smartphone that supports VoWiFi. Most new Android and iPhone models currently have this option built into their settings.
Free service for all BSNL customersBSNL has confirmed that this new VoWiFi service will be completely free. Users will not incur any additional charges for making calls. The company announced through its official X (formerly Twitter) account that the service will provide customers with improved connectivity and a seamless calling experience at no additional cost.
BSNL will compete with private companiesThis move by BSNL now puts it in direct competition with major telecom players like Jio, Airtel, and Vi. While these private companies previously offered Wi-Fi calling, BSNL has now joined the ranks. This initiative could prove to be a significant step for BSNL in strengthening its hold in the Indian telecom market and modernizing its network.
