Baripada: An illegal firecracker manufacturing unit was busted during a raid by police at a village in Karanjia area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
Stepping up the crackdown against illegal activities ahead of the Durga Puja festival, a team of Karanjia police raided the unauthorised illegal firecracker unit located at Kurulia village.
Police said three persons involved in the illegal firecracker production were taken into custody and a large quantity of firecrackers was seized from the site during the special operation.
The raid was conducted in the wake of a massive explosion at Bhimada village under Barasahi Police Station caused extensive damage and sparked concern among people.
Following the explosion, the police have intensified raids in various locations across the district to curb the illegal production and storage of firecrackers.
Notably, a woman was critically injured in an explosion inside a house in Bhimada village recently.
