Balasore: Two sisters went missing after being swept away in the Subarnarekha in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday morning.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 7 am when the victims – Nandita and Nivedita aged 12 and 14- along with other Bom Bam devotees from Chakahari village under Jaleswar police limits, were collecting water at the Sikharput ghat of the river before heading to a nearby Shiva temple for ‘jalabhishek’ on concluding day of the sacred Shravan month.
The sisters along with three others were swept away due to strong currents as they entered the river for a ritualistic dip. While the others were rescued by fellow kanwariyas, the sisters remained untraceable.
Two teams of Fire Service personnel and an ODRAF unit are currently engaged in the rescue efforts, informed Jaleswar SDPO.
