Daniil Medvedev makes French Open threat in X-rated rant after Cam Norrie defeat

may not be back at Roland Garros anytime soon after . In a thrilling contest, the British player came through 7-6 6-3 4-6 1-6 7-5 in a clash that lasted almost four hours.

After fighting back from two sets down, Medvedev looked on course to complete the comeback when he got a vital break in the decider. However, after serving for the match at 5-4, he then appeared to tighten up and produced an error-strewn game. The 29-year-old produced four unforced errors to gift Norrie a break back, and his rival then won the next two before reacting emotionally to his victory.

The Russian had not even dropped a set in his four previous meetings with Norrie. It was also the sixth time he's fallen at the first hurdle in Paris in nine tournaments.

Medvedev, who cut an angry figure on court, was equally agitated in his post-match press conference. However, it wasn't his own play he voiced frustration at, but rather the clay court surface at Roland Garros.

He's now threatened to skip the event next year, as well as tournaments at venues like Rome and Madrid, ranting: "Honestly, man. I might skip the clay court season next year. F**k clay."

Medvedev's only Grand Slam win so far came in the hard-court season at the 2021 . That same year, he reached the quarter-final of the French Open, the only time he has ventured that far in the tournament.

The former world No.1 played three events on clay in the build-up to France. He reached the last eight in Madrid before losing to Casper Ruud in straight sets, but he failed to get that far at the Monte-Carlo Masters or Italian Open.

Ironically, though, it was in Rome on clay where Medvedev recorded his last tournament win. He beat Holger Rune in the tournament two years ago, but he has since endured a barren run and failed to land a title on the .
