How to craft Runes in RuneScape Wilds

In RuneScape Dragonwilds , magic is the core mechanic that allows players to cast some powerful spells, gather resources, and enhance combat efficiently. However, before unleashing the abilities, you will need runes, which are essential magical components. The guide here breaks down the entire process, from gathering materials to crafting the first runes at Rune Altar . Follow it to ensure you remain well-prepared for the dangers ahead.



Gathering the Rune Essence



To craft the runes, you will first need Rune Essence, the glowing resource that can be found near the Rune Geysers scattered all across the map. These are the required raw materials for all the runes, and to mine them, you will need the Stone Pickaxe that can be crafted early on using the 4 Stones from small rocks or boulders.


Once equipped, approach the Rune Geyser and mine it until it breaks. Each would yield you 3 to 5 Rune Essence. As rune-crafting will consume the essence quicker, gather at least 20-30 before you set up the altar. If you have not unlocked the Rune Altar blueprint, complete Zanik's introductory quest by delivering 50 Ash Logs . It will reward you with the recipe and the pickaxe.



Building and using Rune Altar

With enough Rune Essence, it is time to construct the Rune Altar. For it, open the build menu using default Key B. Then navigate to the Crafting Table and place it down. The altar needs 12 stones (mined from the rocks) and 4 Rune Essence.


After building, interact with it to open the rune-crafting interface. Early-game runes like Astral and Air runes are the easiest to craft. They required just 1 Rune Essence per 10 runes.





The Air Runes are used as ammunition for magic weapons, while the Astral Runes are the key to advanced or utility spells like Axtral Projection (teleportation). Keep the steady supply. The runes get consumed quickly in combat and the resource-gathering abilities like the Rockplosion. As you progress, higher-tier runes will unlock. So, revisit the altar often to stock up.


Note: The Fire and Water Runes will unlock later for the combat spells.



Advanced tips for efficient Rune-crafting

• Clear multiple geysers before you return to the base.
  
• Upgrade the tools as the metal pickaxe mines the essence faster.
  
• Some NPCs offer the bonus essence to complete the tasks. Collect them.
