Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan , who has been imprisoned since August 2023, has reportedly requested parole to help mediate tensions with Taliban-controlled Afghanistan , his sister Noreen Khan said on Wednesday, according to Geo TV.
After visiting her brother at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail , Noreen Khan told local media that Imran Khan was deeply concerned over the recent border clashes with Afghanistan.
In her media interaction, Noreen said that her brother offered to help resolve the tensions between the two countries if he were granted parole. “Imran Khan was hurt by the situation with Afghanistan,” she said, adding that the former prime minister urged negotiations to settle the disputes peacefully.
The 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism charges.
Her statement comes amid escalating violence along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Pakistani forces have claimed to repel several attacks from Afghan forces and allied militant groups, responding with retaliatory strikes after what they described as “unprovoked firing.”
The clashes along the Durand Line have resulted in casualties on both sides, with Taliban forces reportedly capturing tanks and weapons from Pakistan during continued military engagements.
