Indian Army Responds Firmly Amid Rising Cross-Border Tensions Post-Pahalgam Terror Attack

Srinagar, May 1 In a continued breach of the ceasefire agreement, Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in multiple sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor, late on April 30 and into the early hours of May 1. According to senior Indian Army officials, retaliatory action was taken immediately and proportionately.

The firing, involving small arms, reportedly originated from Pakistani army posts without any provocation, marking a pattern of increasing aggression since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead. Since then, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, and Pakistan has escalated violations along the border.

Fresh Escalation Across the LoC and International Border

Military sources stated that earlier this week, on the night of April 29–30, Pakistani forces also fired across Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors. Indian forces responded swiftly, maintaining restraint while ensuring security. Additionally, cross-border firing incidents were recorded in Baramulla, Kupwara, and on the International Border (IB) in Pargwal sector, Jammu district. The incident in Pargwal marks the first reported firing on the IB in recent weeks, signaling a possible broader pattern of provocation.

What began in Kupwara and Baramulla soon escalated to Poonch and Akhnoor, followed by Sunderbani, Naushera, and finally Pargwal. The widespread nature of these ceasefire violations has raised concerns about an orchestrated attempt to destabilize border areas.

Security Forces on High Alert

In response to the renewed aggression, Indian security agencies have ramped up vigilance and security deployment across all vulnerable zones. Residents in border and LoC villages have been advised to remain indoors or shift to safer locations as a precaution.

The Indian Army has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward ceasefire violations and emphasized that any aggression will be met with a decisive response.
